Our goal is to empower community members to create their own sustainable food security, leading to:

  • Reduction in the percentage of budget spent on groceries.
  • Reduction in stress around budgeting, meal prepping.
  • Reduction in food waste.
  • Increased confidence in the kitchen.
  • Increased knowledge of food nutrition.

How This Program Works

Content

This program strives to provide long-term solutions to food security through education, access and traditional teachings, such as:

  • Providing food resourcing methods (food banks/ grocery hauls).
  • Teaching basic gardening skills and urban gardening tips to grow fresh food at home.
  • Teaching traditional Indigenous growing and harvesting techniques.
  • Teaching practical skills to improve nutritional intake on a budget.
  • Teaching recipes, food storage and food preservation.
  • Provide access to knowledge on food sales happening in the community/ grocery stores.
  • Creating a community space to work together as a group.
